Rocky Canyon

The completed painting.

The Inspiration--Rocky Gorge by George Hetzel

Began with a masonite board painted with gesso and powdered marble. Blocked in the shapes in sepia tones. Some elements of this painting such as the flat rock on the lower left corner were taken from the painting by George Hetzel and then modified.November 14, 2007, adding the mountains and distant trees.

Detail of rock, March 31st
Detail, mid-section, July 4

Nearly finished, July 4th, 2008. I think I took Hetzel up a notch and added details not in his original--such as the high lavender mountains, mist on the bottom of the waterfall and dripping maidenhair ferns in the rocks.

The finished Giclee' on canvas at full size 24" x 36" are available by special order $300 unframed.   The original is also for sale. Inquire about price. At a recent art show, people could generally not distinguish the original from the prints! Now beautiful art is made affordable.
